Welcome!

Welcome to my blog, where you'll read about my family's progress in renovating our home - a custom-built board and batten (minus the battens) house built in 1975 on a rare 5-acre conservation-type piece of property in small town Ontario, boasting spectacular views of the village from the ridge at the back of the property (which I like to call, Ridgeview). When we moved here in the summer of 2010, the house had original carpets, flooring, cabinetry, windows, and decor. All it needed was a little TLC and a creative mind to remodel it, and so we got started...

You'll find links to some helpful home improvement sites and local contractors.

I also write inspirational poetry and quotes...so you'll catch glimpses of some of my work, and find links to my favorite sites and blogs, or you can follow my Poetical Soul blog (click here or the link at the top of the page).

Hope you enjoy your visit.
Cheers!

Fall again...

It's hard to believe that we're half way through October already.  I just can't seem to get into the harvest and Halloween spirit this year.  Maybe it's because life is busy (we've had no weekends at home to do any yard work or decor).  Maybe it's because the house looks like a renovation disaster, with no siding and half papered exterior, leaving it exposed to the elements (rain, bugs looking to hibernate, falling leaves - and there are lots of them!).

Last year at this time I had started to upscale my harvest decor for Halloween decor.  We had just moved in to this place a few months earlier, and it was a cool house to decorate for this season - lots of trees to provide fall colors, orange garage doors, unfinished pine board siding, original 1970's decor (including plaid wallpaper and brick patterned linoleum in the kitchen), original butcher's block and hanging pot rack with metal hooks in the kitchen, old overgrown shrubs.  Everything was perfect for a Spooky Halloween House, and house party of course - it's was picture perfect!

This year, we've removed the overgrown shrubs, we've taken down the hanging pot rack with metal hooks, replaced all the windows and doors, and did some painting.  It's still spooky looking, but not Halloween House material this year.  Looks like we're going to sit this one out.
